Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, donated 268,000 shares of Tesla to unnamed charities just before the new year, according to a filing on Tuesday. Musk, who owns about 12.8% of Tesla, made this donation as part of his year-end tax planning. The charities receiving the shares do not plan to sell them anytime soon.

This donation is similar to his previous gifts. In 2022, Musk donated $1.95 billion worth of Tesla shares, and in 2021, he gave about $5.74 billion to his non-profit, the Musk Foundation.

The latest donation is worth around $108.2 million based on the stock’s last price. The Musk Foundation supports causes like the development of safe artificial intelligence.

Musk, who is currently the richest person in the world with a net worth of $408.3 billion, did not respond to a request for comment.
