Elon Musk suggested “mentally ill” people are trashing Teslas amid a boycott of the tech billionaire’s company.

Speaking to Sean Hannity on Fox, Musk ranted about “dark forces at work” after continued falling sales in Tesla in recent weeks. Musk had previously sat down for an exclusive joint interview with U.S. President Donald Trump on Hannity’s show that aired from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Florida.

“It turns out when you take away the money they’re receiving fraudulently they get very upset,” Musk said “They basically want to kill me because I’m stopping their fraud and they want to hurt Tesla because we’re stopping this terrible waste and corruption in the government and I guess they’re bad people. Bad people will do bad things.”

Musk, CEO and dubbed Trump’s biggest ally, recently made headlines as the leader of the new Department of Government Efficiency for his role in slashing federal government positions within Trump’s first 100 days in office.

In an interview at the White House previously, Musk’s commitment to reducing federal spending and cutting down the federal workforce as part of DOGE was put under the spotlight.

Musk has faced backlash from Democratic lawmakers and critics for the aggressive cost-cutting measures employed by his team at DOGE, which include slashing foreign aid and axing jobs throughout the government.

“All we’re really trying to do here is restore the will of the people, through the president. And what we’re finding is that there’s an unelected bureaucracy that is implacably opposed to the president and the cabinet,” Musk had explained to Hannity during his previous appearance, addressing the Democrats’ disapproval of DOGE.

The Tesla CEO is facing global ire as massive protests and boycotts of the company have caused the stocks to plummet significantly.

One of Tesla’s earliest investors, Ross Gerber suggested on Tuesday that Musk should step aside as the chief executive unless he forfeits his “divisive” government job, Sky News reported.

“I think Tesla needs a new CEO and I decided today I was going to start saying it and so this is the first show that I’m saying it on,” Gerber said on Sky News.

“It’s time for somebody to run Tesla. The business has been neglected for too long. There are too many important things Tesla is doing, so either Elon should come back to Tesla and be the CEO of Tesla and give up his other jobs or he should focus on the government and keep doing what he is doing but find a suitable CEO of Tesla,” he added.

A federal judge ruled Tuesday that Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency’s dismantling of the U.S. Agency for International Development—an agency meant to reduce government expenditures—likely violated the Constitution. The judge indefinitely blocked DOGE from making further cuts to the agency.

The Trump administration must restore email and computer access to all employees of USAID, including those put on administrative leave. However, it appears to stop short of reversing firings or fully resurrecting the agency, the judge ruled.

In one of the first DOGE lawsuits against Musk himself, U.S. District Judge Theodore Chuang in Maryland rejected the Trump administration’s position that Musk is merely President Donald Trump’s advisor.

Musk’s public statements and social media posts demonstrate that he has “firm control over DOGE,” the judge found pointing to an online post where Musk said he had “fed USAID into the wood chipper.”

The judge acknowledged that it’s likely that USAID is no longer capable of performing some of its statutorily required functions.

“Taken together, these facts support the conclusion that USAID has been effectively eliminated,” Chuang wrote in the preliminary injunction.
